Looking at what parents like and dislike about the Safety 1st Go And Grow Convertible Car Seat, the majority of the parents who got this seat like how comfortable their little ones are in the seat. It even is rated high for safety.

Don't get too excited. I thought I already found the perfect seat, too. LOL. There are a few things you have to note if you are looking into getting this seat.

It is tricky to install in rear-facing mode. Every time I hear about a seat that is tricky to install, I always wonder what is causing the problem. Is it the LATCH, the tightening, or simply the instructions in the manual is unclear.

For this seat's case, it is the LATCH system that makes it difficult to tighten. Others have solved the problem by just using the car seat belt to get a secure install.

Also, the lack of a ball or bubble level makes it hard to level the seat to the ground. The only level indicator is a printed red line on a sticker which may not give you an accurate level because of the differences in our eyesight judgment.

The Head Cushions Are Good. This is probably one of the most important parts of the seat, as it is not only there for comfort. It protects a child's head, too! It is snug and keeps a child's head secure.

There Are Convenient Harness Holders. Sometimes you would keep digging for the straps when putting your kid on the seat. Just hook the straps onto the harness holders so that you don't have to deal with pulling them out under your kid's back or thighs.

The Seat Is Extremely Comfortable. I have to put the word "extremely" because not only one but hundreds of parents who bought the seat swear that their children are very comfortable sleeping or just simply sitting on the seat.

This is directly related to the soft linings that they cover the seat with. There are also strap covers, so the straps, specifically in the neck area, don't leave red marks even when rubbed against the skin.

Between the legs, the cover on the buckles also adds comfort, especially when the weather is hot.

It Is Easy To Remove Lining For Washing. Should you have any accident that needs the lining to be washed (drinks spills or motion-sickness-related-dirt), it is good to know that you need not be a rocket scientist to deal with removing the seat cover to have it washed.

They complain about the quality of the straps being flimsy. They constantly get twisted and therefore need to be untwisted every time.

The strap covers (although nice and soft) sometimes don't stay in place.

Consider narrowing down your options by focusing on those made with EPP or EPS foam for impact management. Both materials meet government safety regulations, but EPP foam is more elastic and less brittle than EPS foam, making it better at withstanding multiple impacts and regaining its shape.

Keep in mind that any seat involved in an accident should be replaced, regardless of the foam type.

conclusion

I wanted to rate this seat high, but that would mean being on par with the seats that have no installation issues. The comfort it gives to a child is a winner (10/10) but that is not just what we are looking for in a seat. We need to use it without cursing, LOL.

Given that this seat can last until a child is 100 pounds (booster) is a plus. For less than USD 200, you have years to use this seat.

Good use of this is starting forward-facing - as they praise it to be relatively easier to install in the forward-facing mode than in the rear-facing.

I highly suggest that you check the parents' feedback to confirm your decision.

  1. I am almost done with car seats myself. However, I am still looking to “grow” with the ones we have. I love the idea that this one is a total fire and forget, one time, one seat, fits all model. We have had to replace ours twice. Currently, my older son is moving to a booster, but the lil one just changed over to front facing. Have you heard of Boosta Pak? Check it out!

    1. Hi Marc,

It’s my first time to hear about the Boosta Pak and upon checking it, it looks like an ideal seat for older kids. The fact that your child is able to help you carry it (looks like a very light mini-back pack), is a huge plus especially if you are always traveling.

I will look into it further as it looks like an inexpensive and ideal solution for families that are always on the go!

      Thanks for recommending. 🙂

      Regards,

      Pitin

  2. Very good review of this car seat. We always want our children to be as safe as possible, but if they are not comfortable it can be a nightmare driving with them. No one wants their child screaming while they are driving. It looks like this is a super high-quality car seat for the price. 🙂
