When I left my full-time job back in 2016, I have started using The Skip Hop Duo Diaper Bag every time we go out of the house because. It feels more informal and rugged.

The shoulder pad is the best part that I like since I am a little weak to carry heavy stuff, LOL. The stroller loops always save my shoulder every time it gets heavy to carry. There are so many good things to say about it. It is durable even if I carry heavy stuff all the time.

As of updating this post, it is in storage. Well kept, and still not chipping off.

When I first started using this diaper bag, I was mainly using it as a laptop bag. Lol. I know. It felt so comfortable to carry I didn’t care if some moms would notice it.

Luckily I was working in an environment where nobody is a new mom. I have a mom colleague whose kid was already 11 years old and didn’t even recognize my bag as a diaper bag. And yes, nobody commented on my diaper bag laptop bag until I left the company, HAHA.

Nowadays I work from home and don’t need to carry my laptop out. I only tried it as a diaper bag several times.

1. Storage

The first time I tried it, I was astonished as to how much it can carry. I used it as an airport carry-on luggage. I was able to carry four 8-oz standard Avent bottles in the two front pockets. There are also pen holders on one of the front pockets.

On the side mesh pocket was a four-tier snack tower that contained milk powder that is good for the 32 oz milk bottles we had. The other side pocket contained the hair ties, a small comb, and a small cloth wipe.

The new version of this bag has been changed to two mesh pockets on both sides.

The new version has two side mesh pockets instead of one.

All the pockets are not insulated. You need to get a separate insulated bag if you require keeping milk warm. They are stretchable enough to carry wide-neck milk bottles and even 16-oz water bottles for parents. Even a sippy cup is perfectly fine to put on them.

The bag I have is the version with magnetic closure for the main compartment. They have changed it to zippers. The tech pockets also were reduced to one instead of the version with the two tech pockets like what I have.

There is no baby wipe holder which is I think is fine. You just need to put the baby wipes in one of the pockets, and it will still be accessible especially if you put it in the outside pocket of the bag or inside the bag left open.

Two zippered tech pockets are found on the front panel and the back panel to keep mom’s keys, wallet, phone, and cards. You can easily slip the diaper changing pad onto the back outside pocket.

The back pocket can also hold a small wet bag should you have anything dirty to keep.

If you are going to bring a toy, you can clip them onto the D-ring for toys located outside the bag. The older version (my bag) doesn’t have the D-ring.

2. Easy of Use

I find that it is a plus point that they designed the bag in such a way that the pockets are more outside than on the inside. It is because if you are carrying your baby in one hand, and you need to get something important with your other hand, you do not need to open the main compartment and dig for the item.

Instead, you probably will have memorized where you put the pacifiers or the baby wipes after a few trips with this bag so accessing items will be super convenient.

It is easy to organize stuff inside the narrow central compartment because you will not tend to stack stuff on top of each other. Clothes can be rolled or you can place the items side-by-side, therefore, reducing the need to dig deep every time you are trying to find them.

All parents need to be hands-free as much as possible. If you are carrying your child in a sling, carrier, or just with your hands, use the adjustable, padded shoulder strap for quickly accessing stuff. The shoulder strap is about 1 1/2 inches thick and is very comfortable.

There’s a patented shuttle clip that can easily convert it from a shoulder bag to a stroller bag. But then again, it is always best to avoid hanging a HEAVY bag onto your stroller to prevent a possible tripping accident. This is one of the features I love about this bag.

Finding stuff inside this bag should be very easy since the main compartment is only of medium size. The lining of the bag inside the main compartment is good contrast so you can quickly find items.

However, you will not probably feel the effect of the color of the lining since the interior is a bit narrow, compared to bigger bags that the colors of the interior compartment contribute to quickly finding stuff inside.

3. Comfort

Weighing only 1.4 pounds and packed with features, the thick padded shoulder strap will reduce any carrying discomfort compared to a thinner strap diaper bag. This is one of the most comfortable diaper bags I own.

4. Quality/Cost

Belonging to the mid-price range diaper bag, it is not a surprise that this bag boasts good quality.

5. Material

It is BPA-free, Phthalate-free, 100% polyester diaper bag. You can quickly clean the bag by wiping it.

6. Return Policy

If you are not happy for a reason, you can return it within 30 days of receipt of shipment if you purchase it from Amazon.

  1. Well these look pretty awesome options but as a parent of a 15 month old boy I need to ask you one question – what are the storage systems like in these? I mean, if you are caught without a place to discard the…mess, do they have a temporary section for holding the dirty culprits until you find the trash?

    1. If you are talking about diapers, you can roll them neatly and place them in a plastic bag. Some plastic bags are infused with baking soda for safe and natural odor elimination such as Munchkin Arm and Hammer Diaper Bag Dispenser. You can put them in your stroller or the front pocket of the diaper bag until you have access to a trash can.

  2. Hi there! I’m glad that I found this page. A friend of ours mentioned the other day that she was looking for a new diaper bag, but wanted something a little bit trendy.

I like the suggestion that I saw in the comments that this bag could be used as a laptop bag too! I think one of the great things about this bag is the fact that it doesn’t really “just” look like a bag for carry baby stuff. This looks like a great multi-purpose bag.

    1. Yup. They look very stylish, and Dads’ can choose the less loud color (gray or black). Form meets function. 🙂

  3. Hi Pitin,

This bag not only looks great but is designed in such a way as to keep everything so organized which new Mom’s truly appreciate! As a highly visual person, I totally appreciate all the images that clearly show how useful this bag can be! Love all the pockets! But mostly, I am thrilled to know that this bag is toxin-free – this is a biggy for me. I will not hesitate to send my ‘mom’ friends over to your blog to check this out.

    Many thanks!

    Heather 🙂

    1. I like how “less bulky” they look but functions the same as the more bulky-looking bags. A must-get for new parents.

  4. The Skip Hop Duo Diaper Bag – it is more of an all-purpose day out baby bag. Looks so handy and useful and seems spacious too. I like the all angle images you have inserted and the practical explanations. The bag design and color looks super.

    1. It doesn’t look like a diaper bag at all. HAHA. Only parents know I am using a diaper bag as an office bag, lol.

  5. I love the fact that there are loads of images of the product on the page. One of my pet-peeves when buying things such as this product is not being able to see clearly what I am purchasing so thank you for that. I like the categories such as ease of use and price, and how you address these features one by one. It makes it very easy to discern whether or not the item is worth purchasing.

    1. I would personally buy something that I can visualise with the help of photos and videos (if possible). It is always good to check if the product is what you are looking for before making a purchase. 🙂

  6. what a great bag! It really is attractive and it is useful. A friend of mine upon having her first baby would have loved this. She was seduced by a crazy expensive version. I think she spent four times more than what this one costs. No question, this looks like a great deal!

    1. I also have a $900 Coach bag (my husband bought it on sale for 50{0b94e73e5e915ecbcf303cb4742b71cc2938bb096419f627339ee9d65669f423} off). I thought I can use it as a diaper bag. The first day, I hated it. Very uncomfortable and extremely heavy. Not all expensive bags will do the justice.

  7. The thing that really interest me about this bag is it could be converted into tech storage bag. Sooner or later the baby won’t be needing diapers anymore and it would be a waste to just stack it somewhere inside your house and let it deteriorate.

Stacking items that is meant for 2 babies is not that much of a problem I think because most probably a mom or a dad doesn’t want to carry to baby at the same time for a walk. It’s dangerous for the babies and hassle for the parent. So most probably it would be just right for 1 baby.

Great review with this Skip Hop Duo Diaper Bags Signature.

    Keep it coming,
    -Norz

  8. Hi there Pitin,

I must say that at first glance, this doesn’t look like a diaper bag at all. I guess it’s probably because of the contemporary designs.

True enough, you did mention that this bag can be converted into a personal bag. I particularly like the clip on for toys and if I may add, I think that’s a good spot for the pacifier too.

They can sometimes be so hard to find amidst all the stuff inside a bag.

  9. Wow this bag is gorgeous! Thanks for all the helpful information.
I love the fact that it can become a laptop bag once I don’t need it for the kids anymore. Really great point!
Good advice on packing smarter too – I often times find that most people pack completely unnecessary stuff, and then wonder why they cant fit it all in their bags!
Love it! Thanks for such a great review.

  10. Wow, this looks great. I love your comments about the pockets – so true, I don’t need to be fishing around INSIDE my bag to get the one thing I need. Your advice on not putting the heavy bag on the stroller in on point. So scary. I love that it’s toxin-free – that’s really important to me. It’s a cute bag, too.

    1. I am still guilty of hanging my diaper bag on the stroller, but I always make sure that it is NOT heavy. One criteria to know that it is “quite safe” to hang your bag in the stroller is that even if the stroller is empty and the bag is there, it doesn’t trip over. BUT then again, better to be safe than sorry.

  11. I agree that it’s convenient to have plenty of pockets on the outside of the bag, where they’re easily accessed. I think the size of this bag works nicely for the day for one baby. If you can’t fit everything you need in this bag, you may be carrying too much (and I’ve been guilty of that). This is also a nice looking bag; it has personality without being too cutesy.

    1. I totally agree on the overpacking issue. I have also been guilty of that. I used to hate going out because it felt like my backpack is good for three days. I always look at other moms who manage to look still calm amidst having a toddler and a newborn. Their bags are almost the same as me, but they don’t seem like they are overpacked! It took me months before I manage to hone a packing skill, LOL.
