Peg Perego has designed the Primo Viaggio infant car seat to be easily installed, either with a base or without it. Parents may choose between using the LATCH straps or the car seat belt.

It doesn’t matter which one is used, as both offer the same level of safety and security for the baby passenger. The “Right Tight System” allows for easy and secure locking of the base.

See This Video On How You Can Install The Base Using The LATCH:

You can also attach the car seat carrier without the base. Parents who have difficulty in doing so should follow this video for easy installation using the car’s seatbelt.

There is an “Infinite Recline” system that allows parents to recline the car seat to a multitude of positions. There’s a “Tri-Zone Level Indicator” as well to help parents find the appropriate seat angle for the baby’s size.

Country Of Origin: Italy

Easy To Buckle And Unbuckle? Yes

Should there be any impact collision, the seat has an EPS (Expanded PolyStyrene) foam that is energy-absorbing. It is located in the shell, and the head panel as added protection for your baby’s head and torso.

There are two soft, breathable fabric cushions to choose from. Both are designed to ensure your child’s head is correctly positioned.

The first cushion system is for preemies and infants weighing at least 4 pounds. It provides support at the neck and bottom position.

The other cushion system is designed to deliver support for bigger babies. They are both intended to protect your baby’s shoulders too at any growth stage.

The seat base also has a built-in anti-rebound bar for added protection should there be a rear collision. Not many seats have this added feature yet.

The Seat

Is The Material Breathable? Yes
Seat Weight: 9.5 pounds
Machine Washable Cover? Yes
Roomy? Yes
No-Rethread Harness? Yes
Comes With An Infant Body Support? Yes
Easy To Remove Cover? Yes
Expiration 7 years
Shoulder Harness Has Pads? Yes

The side impact protection makes it easier to adjust seat positioning to six different positions without having to re-thread or remove the seat fabric.

You can adjust the seat even with the baby in it.

It Has Built-in Elastic Straps.

Not many seats have built-in elastic straps to hold the harness out of the way when you’re placing the infant in the seat.

It definitely makes it easier to buckle your baby up because the harness is neatly out of the way, therefore, reducing the time you need to dig for it.

The seat fitting straps are useful for tucking in the car seat’s harness so that your baby can sit comfortably.

It Is Comfortable For The Baby.

The six different positions to choose from ensure the best fit for your child’s comfort.

The Primo Viaggio Infant Car Seat also has an adjustable and removable, large hood with UPF 50+ protection to shield your child from the sun’s rays.

And best of all, the materials used for the seat are of top quality, has an excellent touch and feel, and will not make your child overheat.

One downside with this seat is that the canopy can get in the way of the handle when in the “carry” position. One solution for ease of carrying it around is to either put the canopy all the way up or all the way down.

One thing I like about this seat is the non-rethread harness. A lot of infant car seats would need you to manually remove the harness and re-feed them to the appropriate slot before you can adjust the harness height. The Peg Perego harness adjustment can be found behind the seat. You just have to move it up and down to give your child more room height-wise as they grow.

The ease of installation by SEAT BELT (without the base) seems to be way easier than by using the LATCH. If I am getting this seat, I’d just probably use the car’s seatbelt to avoid pulling any muscle trying to tighten the base by the LATCH.

One thing I worry about is the seat weight. 9.5 pounds is not very easy to carry using your bare hands especially as your child grows heavier. Peg Perego compatible strollers are not the CHEAPEST, and some of the compatible strollers from other brands will still need you to purchase an adapter, which again will add to the cost.

If this is the car seat you are eyeing to get for your little one, I suggest putting it on your baby registry as it can cost you an arm and a leg.

One consolation I probably can say for getting this expensive car seat is that it won’t expire so fast. It has seven years of life which means your child’s siblings (or cousins) can reuse it.

One of the best things about this infant car seat is that the manufacturers did not sacrifice functionality and safety features over design. If this is your primary concern, you will certainly be happy with this so-called “Ferrari” of the infant car seats.

What makes it a worthy investment is knowing your child is EXTRA safe with all the added extra protection feature. Remember, though, all these safety features are useless unless you install the seat correctly.

The higher price tag attached to this model may be a little impractical for most parents. But if the money is not a problem and you are all for your baby’s comfort and extra protection, by all means, consider this seat.

I highly suggest that you check out the feedbacks of parents who got this seat to help you decide further.

  1. I have been reading a lot of car seat reviews, and I’ve wondered how easy the latch straps really are to use. I was so thankful that you included a detailed video that showed exactly how to use them. It doesn’t look nearly as complicated as I imagined. For first-time parents, deciding which belts to use can be confusing, but this post was very helpful.

    1. HI Theresa,

You’re welcome. Installation can be intimidating especially for first-time parents. Glad to have found the videos as well to share with my readers.

I hope you find what you are looking for.

  2. Hi Pitin,

Thank you so much for an unbiased review of the Peg Perego car seat. I had such a hard time shopping for my first car seat and I wanted something that was truly safe for my baby versus how good it looked. I love the safety features you pointed out. I agree though since it is not the least expensive this may be something great to add to a registry.

    1. Hi Josephine,

To be fair with all other infant car seats, each and every one of them needs to pass a certain safety test before they are given the clearance to be out in the market. But there are those who would take the extra mile to make the infant seat safer.

And of course, installing it properly will majorly contribute to how safe the infant seat is because no matter how much safety features the seat has, if you don’t install it properly, it will be unsafe.

  3. Hey Pitin,

Thank you for the very deep review. It is always nice to read your reviews as you provide us with thorough information. I had a look at the Amazon reviews and was surprised about the prevalence of positive reviews. 72{0b94e73e5e915ecbcf303cb4742b71cc2938bb096419f627339ee9d65669f423} of all the reviews are five-star reviews. I think this is great and it means that the car seat is really good. But the price seems quite high to me but well… The safety comes first and as you write this car seat provides extra safety. I also read one review where baby survived major accident thanks to this car seat so this seems to be the best investment parents could make for their infants.

    1. Hi Arta,

Thank you so much for reading my reviews and for leaving your thoughts.

I think the hefty price tag is not just because of the extra safety feature but also because of where it is made. Peg Perego car seats are made in Italy. When comparing infant car seats, I noticed that those that were made in China are more affordable.

But looking at it, I think the Primo Viaggio’s price is worth it given the features it has. It actually has the same price as the Uppababy Mesa which is made in the USA.

  4. Hi Pitin. Great review this looks like an excellent car seat. Your review is very clear and offers real user explanations. I have been looking for a quality car seat as a present for my nephew (wife’s just had a baby).

I see it has some good reviews on Amazon and it comes in different colours. Thanks great review.

    1. Hi Simon,

This would be a lovely present, I am sure they will love it as much as the baby would. 🙂

  5. Hi there. You have provided a very good product review setting out all the information I would need to make an informed decision.

Just one question, can this car seat be used in both the front seat and rear seat? If it can be used in the rear seat, how easy would be it be to use in a 2-door vehicle model?

    1. Hi Miles,

It is never advisable to install a car seat in the front seat (unless you can deactivate the airbag). Please take note of the car seat dimension which is 25.9 x 17.0 x 23.9 inches. The car seat base size is 21.6 x 14.6 11.5 inches. Two-door vehicles’ rear seat space comes in difference sizes. Please make sure you measure the interior of your car’s rear seat space against the Peg Perego 4-35 dimensions above. I hope this helps.
