Although installing both of the seats is easy to do, dealing with the Uppababy Mesa installation can be a better experience.

First, to know if the Uppababy Mesa’s base is already level with the ground, all you need to make sure is that the level indicator on the side of the base is all green (not red).

With the Maxi Cosi Max 30’s levelling, you must make sure that the horizontal line on the side of the infant carrier is parallel to the ground. That’s when you know you have the proper angle.

Next, when installing the Uppababy Mesa’s base, you’ll have an indicator at the center of the base that again shows green after you apply enough amount of pressure during installation. That’s when you know it’s time to test the tightness. Most of the time, the base installation would already be tight enough as long as the green indicator is already present.

With the Maxi Cosi 30 Max, you must do it manually. Tighten, test. Repeat.

The handle of the Maxi Cosi 30 Max infant carrier moves quite a bit, regardless of its position and even when clicked on to the base.

They make the Maxi Cosi 30 Max in the USA, while the Uppababy Mesa in China.

Some parents find that buckling up their little ones in the seat can be a challenge with the Mico Max 30 seat, although it’s not the case for the majority.

Uppababy Mesa’s seat buckle system is a smooth experience.

The Maxi Cosi Mico Max 30’s canopy is a little more generous, but the difference is not very significant as it extends only a little way past its handle.

Carrying the Uppababy Mesa by hand or forearm may not be ideal. Aside from the default heavyweight of the empty carrier, the space between its carry handle and the canopy can be limited, especially when you are carrying by the forearm.

Carrying the Mico Max 30 by hand can be better because aside from it being lighter by default, the design of the carry handle curves around your hips for a more comfortable carry. There is also enough carrying space between the handle and the canopy.

In choosing the Maxi Cosi Max 30’s fashion, one should choose the original fashions that have self-wicking fabrics to make sure that the seat material will not make your child hot. The Sweater Knit Special Edition* from Maxi Cosi, for instance, that comes with a foot muff, is ideal if your child needs extra warmth during cold seasons.

The default weight of the Uppababy Mesa seat makes it ideal to be always clicked into a compatible stroller compared to the Maxi Cosi.

The Rachel Zoe Jet Set* fashion from Maxi Cosi should ALWAYS be spot-cleaned only and with extra care as the leather detailing can bleed into the seat fabric.

The Uppababy Mesa has a convenient movable headrest that you can slide up and down to change the harness height position as your child needs more space. You don’t need to manually remove the harness and reposition them to the next higher slots as your child gets taller.

The expiration date of the Maxi Mico 30 Max is more generous than the Uppababy Mesa.

conclusion

There is an approximately USD 50 price difference between the Maxi Cosi Mico 30 Max and the Uppababy Mesa infant seat. The Uppababy Mesa is more expensive.

Let’s see what the added cost is from.

  1. The rear-facing weight limit is 5 pounds more
  2. The overall length of the seat can “save” a little space in the vehicle
  3. Has a fool-proof visual indicator for easy installation
  4. Easier to buckle up your child in the seat
  5. Machine-washable cover
  6. No-rethread harness

Now let’s see what you get from saving a little with the Maxi Cosi Mico Max 30.

  1. An anti-rebound bar in the base for extra safety in an event of a crash
  2. Made in the USA
  3. More generous canopy
  4. Enough space between the canopy and the carry handle for carrying by hand or forearm
  5. Contoured carry handle design that curves with your hips for a more comfortable carry
  6. Lighter in weight
  7. More generous expiration date

They have their own weaknesses and strengths and I believe BOTH are a good choice. But if I am to choose just one,

I’d probably go with the Uppababy Mesa.*

    1. Hi Emily,

Most car seats that are “made in the USA” are sometimes a combination of two countries’ production – that is, materials can be from the US but assembled in China and vice versa. It’s quite hard to decipher what their guidelines are when they declare that the product is “made in the USA” when it’s a combination of both – unless it’s purely disclosed that it is “100% US-product” like how they boast Italian car seats.

Thanks for sharing your feedback. I appreciate it.

      Kind Regards,
      Pitin
