Budget-friendly, safe and convenient – some of the positive feedback for the Evenflo triumph lx convertible car seat. However, this does not automatically mean that you (or all other parents out there) will find the most ideal child restraint system from this product. Let’s all find out if this is worth buying at all.
|Rear-Facing Weight:||5 to 40 pounds|
|Rear-Facing Height Limit:||19 to 37 inches|
|Forward-Facing Weight:||22 to 65 pounds|
|Forward-Facing Height Limit:||28 to 50 inches|
With its 37 inches rear facing height limit, most children could possibly outgrow this seat even before they reach the recommended forward facing age. If you have a smaller child, this would not be a big issue.
Will It Fit In My Car?
Some people find Evenflo Triumph LX seat bulky, especially if they have already seen or used other much slimmer car seats.
It would depend on the type and model of vehicle you have, but if you install this in a smaller car, a large-built front passenger might sit uncomfortably when this product is installed rear facing.
Installed forward-facing, however, there would be enough space for the front passenger.
|Do I need to use a pool noodle/rolled towel?||Yes|
|Easy To Install Rear-Facing?||Relatively|
|Easy To Install Forward-Facing?||Relatively|
|Easy To Uninstall?||Yes|
The Triumph LX manual is loaded with warnings and checklists that you must keep in mind when using this car seat.
It warned against using this child restraint with door-mounted seatbelts and seatbelts moving automatically with vehicle frame when you open the car door. It stated that only belts that stay locked and you can pull tight are ideal seatbelts to use with this system.
There sure are videos you can watch online to see how the car seat may be installed, but (what I like is that) Evenflo offers a live video installation. You can actually choose from among the available schedules and book yourself at Evenflo ParentLink. I think I have not yet seen this kind of customer support from other brands and manufacturers, at least as of writing this review.
How To Install The Evenflo Triumph LX Rear-Facing With LATCH
The lower anchor connectors needed for this installation mode can be found on the storage clips at the base of this child restraint. You must thread these connectors through the appropriate path for rear facing assembly.
You would need to partially remove the seat pad from its shell to loosen the harness and find the rear-facing belt path. If booking for live video installation with Evenflo ParentLink does not suit you, you may watch the video below instead.
Shown here is how the assembly strap was made secure and tight. You would also see how a rolled towel can be placed under the base if you ever need to use one to achieve the proper recline angle for your child.
The full recline position # 1 is the only recline angle for rear-facing use. When installing in this mode, the level arrow must be parallel with the ground. Adjusting the recline is simple as you could just pull the Recline lever while slightly lifting the back of this seat.
How To Install The Evenflo Triumph LX Rear-Facing With Seat Belt
For vehicle seatbelt routing, you could partially remove the seat pad to see the rear-facing belt path. Next, buckle the seatbelt. Install a locking clip if necessary although this package does not come with a locking clip, so you need to call Evenflo ParentLink to get a locking clip for this seat.
You can also buy one from a baby store or use a locking clip you might already have. Locking clips, apparently, are swappable from seat to seat and brand to brand.
Vehicles that are model 1996 and newer likely have vehicle seatbelts that lock when they are tightened so a locking clip will not be necessary.
A properly installed car seat should not move more than one inch at the rear-facing belt path when you check it side to side and front to back. Hook the seat pad back in place when the seatbelts are already fastened. If you cannot securely install this seat using the car seatbelt, you may try installing it with the LATCH system instead.
How To Install The Evenflo Triumph LX Forward-Facing With LATCH
The appropriate recline position in forward facing is either position #2 or position #3. Set up the child restraint in the recline position you need. Ensure that the car seat is flat on the vehicle seat.
From the rear-facing position, re-route the lower anchor strap so that it will correctly be in the forward facing path. Attach the LATCH connectors in their respective anchor bars on the vehicle seat. With your body’s full weight, push the child restraint tightly in place on the vehicle seat as you pull up and tighten the lower anchor strap.
When installed forward facing, you need to also attach the tether hook to the tether anchor at the back (refer to your car manual to know where the tether anchor is) of the vehicle seat.
If the tether strap is too short to reach the car tether anchor, you need to ask Evenflo ParentLink for tether extender. This extender, of course, is not free.

Some parents prefer to install the car seat forward facing with the use of vehicle seatbelt so they could just ignore the LATCH weight limit.
How To Install The Evenflo Triumph LX Forward-Facing With Seat Belt
The same idea about the use of locking clip in rear-facing also applies in forward facing.
Once recline position and belt re-routing are done, you must fasten the vehicle seatbelt accordingly. You may refer to this video demonstration on how to install using a seat belt.
Installation videos and manuals surely help, but comments from real parents who have actually used the Evenflo Triumph LX seat must be given more consideration as you try to figure out if this is a product you should buy.
Every car is different, and even if this seat can be installed tightly in many vehicles, there are still some vehicles where such installation, particularly in rear facing, is impossible. One parent even told that the car seat fits well rear facing in one of their cars, but not in the other.
Some were disappointed when they encountered a problem using the recline lever for rear facing. All in all, many have commended the Triumph LX if installed forward facing, but not rear facing. Also, you might find this difficult to set up if you have a smaller car, which is something you need to think about.
One noticeable thing about the Triumph LX and other Triumph versions is that its latch system is comprised of hooks (instead of the stapler-like metal of different car seats) that you might find stiff to hook/unhook.
You should also realize that regardless of how techy or conventional, how cheap or how expensive your purchased car seat is, you will need to invest effort in installing it and making sure that it is properly in place.
Installation procedures in the manual mentioned about full body weight must be placed on the car seat when tightening the straps or belts. If you are rather small and petite, you would need the help of someone else to do this.
Thus, once it is installed, you would not want to take it out and transfer into another car.
|Country Of Origin:||USA|
|Side Impact Tested:||Yes|
|Approved For Airplane Use:||Yes|
|Easy To Buckle And Unbuckle?||Yes|
Evenflo Triumph LX is made in the USA using the US and imported components, so this is not purely American made.
Just like the older versions of Triumph, Triumph LX also has durable plastic as a frame. Even so, it has been side impact tested and adheres to different Safety Standards.
It was also designed and tried for structural integrity at about twice the federal crash test standards.
It is likewise FAA certified, and temperature tested. Such rigorous quality testing has been proven effective by parents who have unfortunately gone through real-life accidents on the road.
In one review, a parent said their car was totaled in a wreck, but their son was not harmed at all, so they decided to purchase the same seat.
Another mom said that when they were at a dead stop, another vehicle going at a minimum of 50 kph plowed their back, but their little boy also remained safe, so they are buying a new one of the same seat.
|Is The Material Breathable?||Yes|
|Seat Weight:||23.2 pounds|
|Machine Washable Cover?||Yes|
|Comes With An Infant Body Support?||Yes|
|Easy To Remove Cover?||Yes|
|Comes With A Cup Holder?||Yes, 2|
|Shoulder Harness Has Pads?||No|
|Leg Straps Has Pads?||No|
The car seat has a cozy, soft fabric with lightweight foam and removable pillow. In the Q&A section of Amazon, someone asked if the fabric is of breathable material and another parent answered that their baby stayed cool sitting in the car seat. However, the fabric is a regular type that even gets dirty quickly.
If replacement parts are needed, they can be ordered online from Evenflo.
Triumph LX is of average weight, but it is on the bulky side. It comes with no travel bag, so you need to find your most preferred way of carrying this when you travel. One practical idea is using a strap or a belt to wheel in your luggage, your child and the car seat in one just like this.
The Infinite Slide harness makes it easy to adjust the harness without re-threading. The Tension Right knob is also very convenient to use in making sure that the harness on the sitting child is tight enough.
However, these knobs that appear on both sides of the seat could add up to its width and could make you feel slightly awkward when you are sitting next to the car seat.
Also, some parents had difficulty in turning the knob in rear-facing but said it worked well in forward facing. Most low ratings for this product are due to the challenge in handling the knob that could even scrape off the skin on your hands.
What could discourage you from buying the Evenflo Triumph LX is that its expiration is only 6 years.
It seems that the two cup holders have different settings in a way that one is a round plastic while the other has an elastic band.
The padded cover can be removed and washed, but not the straps, which some parents find inconvenient.
Some bits of dirt can get into the tiny crevasses and would be difficult to remove. The child’s vomit or food could also get on the straps, which you may only clean by wiping or brushing with a toothbrush.
Here is a good video on how to clean the Triumph car seat.
How To Clean The Evenflo Triumph LX Car Seat
Still, the Triumph LX’s design is supported by many that Evenflo even came up with various models of it. The Triumph LX version from Amazon is said to be the most regular compared to other stores exclusive editions like Triumph ProComfort LX at Target. Or the SureSafe Triumph LX at Walmart. But it is still as good as the others even without the additional bells and whistles.
In terms of price, it falls within the mid-price range. Installation wise, it is also neither hard nor easy to set up.
It is well-padded and comfortable for baby to sit on. You could even place the harness buckles into the small buckle pockets while taking the baby in and out of the car seat.
There were reports about how the seat was not that easy to install especially in rear facing. The chest clip on the harness was also reportedly easy to maneuver even by kids. The Tension Right knobs, while theoretically helpful, could be a pain to turn.
In my opinion, this is a decent car seat to buy for such features that are highly rated by many users. Nonetheless, I would not say that this is something that I can buy and could feel happy afterward.
Taking a chance in buying the Evenflo Triumph LX just because it is mid-priced, and yet still comes with some cool features, might be okay if you have enough space in your car. Just take note that there better options on its price range that can even outperform it.
I highly suggest that you check out the feedbacks of other parents who got this seat to help you decide further.
