There’s nothing fancy about the Evenflo Sureride DLX Car Seat. Except that it is highly affordable, lightweight and comes in cute designs, this car seat is a pretty much basic seat.

Let me share with you what I found out about this seat.

Evenflo SureRide DLX Convertible Car Seat*

Ideal Use

Rear-Facing Weight: 5 to 40 pounds
Rear-Facing Height: 19 to 40 inches
Forward-Facing Weight: 22 to 65 pounds
Recommended Height: 28 to 54 inches

Because of having a minimum height requirement of 19 inches, the SureRide DLX is not suitable for newborns and young babies who have yet to meet the minimum height requirement of the seat.

Good All-In-One Car Seats

Will It Fit In My Car?

Width 19 inches
Height 26.5 inches
Depth/Length 12.5 inches

This seat is quite compact and narrow. However, its height, when the seat is reclined, can take up the legroom of the passenger seat, especially in a small vehicle.

Good Two Way Car Seats

Do I need to use a pool noodle/rolled towel? Yes
Easy To Install Rear-Facing? No
Easy To Install Forward-Facing? No
Easy To Uninstall? Yes

We all know that installing a car seat is one the most important things when it comes to the safety of our kids. This seat has no leveling apparatus to help parents gauge if the install is at the correct angle.

Also, whether using the LATCH or the seat belt, it seems that tightening the install is most complained by parents who bought it.

There is a little confusion with the LATCH strap when switching the installation from forward-facing to rear-facing mode and vice versa.

Here’s a helpful video demonstrating how to do it. Sometimes, you have to remove the entire cover to switch the straps to the rear-facing position, while some parents manage to do it without entirely removing the seat cover.

The Seat

Is The Material Breathable? No
Seat Weight: 9.7 pounds
Easy To Remove Cover? Yes
Machine Washable Cover? Yes
Roomy? Yes
No-Rethread Harness? No
Comes With An Infant Body Support? No
Expiration 6 years
Comes With A Cup Holder? Yes
Shoulder Harness Has Pads? No
Leg Straps Has Pads? No

The comfort of the passenger is equally important. A comfortable passenger would mean a fuss-free travel. But the seat seems to not have enough padding. And when it’s hot outside, the seat tends to make the passenger sweat a lot, too.

The Weight – this is probably one of the selling points of this seat in my opinion. If you are looking for a temporary seat that you need to carry somewhere without the pain of carrying it, 9.7 pounds is relatively lighter than most convertible car seats.

It is nice and roomy inside. It has enough space for kids who are on the chubby side.

Lastly, although not highly relevant, it is good to know that the seat still looks good given the price point and materials used.

Check Out The Colors*

Given the lack of information (in the manual) on how to safely install it in the rear-facing mode, as well as the absence of the leveling apparatus, I feel that it would be risky to use this for your infant in the rear-facing mode. Unless you get an expert in car seat installation, I would think again before using this seat for a vulnerable newborn and younger babies. Also, it doesn’t come with multiple recline options if your young baby cannot support their neck yet.

It’s quite a high seat – 26.5 inches. In the rear-facing position, it will definitely take up a lot of space especially if you are reclining it a lot. A problem you can expect if your car is small.

If you don’t plan to use it rear-facing, it’s a good buy. For less than a hundred dollars, the 65 pounds/54 inches limit for forward-facing is easily justified. It’s not something that your child will outgrow very fast.

However, don’t expect anything fancy. It’s a nice FORWARD-FACING car seat for the price, but if you can afford it, consider another seat if you want an improvement in functionality.

  1. Hi Pitin, thank you for the great info. My daughter is outgrowing her first car seat and I’m looking for a convertible one. It is really hot where we live and I see that you said this fabric doesn’t breathe very well 🙁 but I like that it’s lightweight. Do you have any recommendations for another seat or tricks to help keep this seat cool? Thanks again!

    1. Hi Becky,

According to car seat experts, car seats are crash-tested as per how they are sold.

It is never advisable to add third party enhancements to a car seat to make its performance better. So if you are thinking to put something in it to make the seat cooler, you’ll be affecting its overall safety.

In this case, getting a similarly-priced seat is the only solution if you are looking for a seat that has a breathable fabric.

This is the link for all two-way convertible car seats I have researched and reviewed. Out of all of them, only the Evenflo Tribute LX performs better than the rest of the similarly-priced seats.

You can read my review of the Evenflo Tribute LX here.

      I hope this helps.

  2. Hey Pitin, Got a question. How easy is it to add and remove from the car? We have a minivan and take weekend trips which mean we need to take it out when we leave baby Ally with my parents. Is there a complicated strap system to install? Thanks!

    1. Hi Ronbo,

Removing it from the car can easily be dealt with. If you really need to leave this car seat with your parents, I suggest that you make sure that you help them have it safely installed first since it is very tricky to install. Otherwise, you can consider a similar-priced seat that is easier to install.

  3. Would you recommend this car seat for a grandparent who would only be using it occasionally? I would only be using this when driving short distances.

    1. Hi Sue,

I think it’s a practical choice for occasional use. Since you will only have your grandchild seated for a while, the inadequate padding for comfort would probably be just bearable for your little passenger. 🙂
