The Diono Radian RXT Has A Head Wing

The first obvious difference between the two at first glance is the presence of the head wing for the Diono Radian RXT. The head wing’s main purpose is for safety protection against side collisions.

On the good side, the Radian RXT is considered “safer” in comparison with the R120 which does not come without it. It can also serve as a head support for your child when they sleep.

On the downside, it can pose a comfort issue for a growing child. Sometimes, it can hinder the shoulders of taller kids.

To help ease the comfort of the passenger, you can slide it up and down to adjust accordingly.

Learn how to do it from this video.

How To Raise Up Or Down The Head Support Of The Diono Radian RXT

The absence of the head wing in the Radian R120 has the main advantage in terms of comfort. Parents don’t need to worry about it hindering their child’s shoulders should moving the headrest up and down does not suffice.

On the downside, it would be “less safe” for your older child should there be a side collision. Also, your child’s head can flop as they sleep because of the absence of something to support their heads.

A sleep positioner can help with making your child’s head more comfortable when they sleep.

The Diono RXT Is Heavier

The Diono Radian RXT is 2 pounds away from Diono R120. Being heavier, it does not mean that the Diono R120 is already light.

Both are a beast to carry in your back should you need to air travel with them.

It would help to strap them in a car seat travel cart, like the GO-GO BABYZ TRAVELMATE. Any cart that can accommodate the total weight of your passenger + 25/27 pounds, would be ideal.

You Can Choose From A Wide Range Of Color Options With The Diono RXT

I feel this is a minor factor, but if you are particular with colors, it’s good to know that there are more color options with the RXT.

Conclusion

For USD 40 more, you get to have an additional safety feature with the RXT’s head wings. Is your child’s safety worth USD40? Of course, yes.

However, the RXT’s head wing, although movable, will still be there to hinder your tall kid’s shoulders. But how are you supposed to know until you get to that part?

If your genes tend to produce tall kids, the R120 is a safer choice.

Comfort-wise, I feel you would need to get a sleep positioner whichever seat you choose as your child’s head can still flop forward as both seats tend to be more upright.

  1. I’ve been using R100 for 1 year now and it truly is a remarkable product. Great slim design, aluminum chasis, easy to install( took me about 10 minutes to assemble and another 6 to place it in the car) and also am a big fan of the Superlatch system. Great product. Great Review.
