While looking at several convertible car seats, I would often read about parents recommending The Britax USA Marathon Clicktight Convertible Car Seat, talking highly of it like it’s the ultimate convertible car seat solution to every parent’s problem.

And so I went ahead and researched about the famous seat.

With that, let’s get to the review.

Installation

Do I need to use a pool noodle/rolled towel? Yes
Easy To Install Rear-Facing? Yes
Easy To Install Forward-Facing? Yes
Easy To Uninstall? Yes

It is good that the seat can recline at multiple angles, seven to be exact. You would not be needing to use rolled towels or pool noodles for older children. For younger babies, using a pool noodle is ideal as it can be too upright for them.

The location of the lever for you to recline the seat is located against the vehicle’s seat once installed rear-facing. It can be hard to access the lever while the car seat is installed in the rear-facing mode. You will have to uninstall the seat, adjust the recline and install it again.

No One Would Dare Question How Safe It Is. There are no arguments about the car seat safety as it is built as sturdy as it can be. Most parents who bought the seat would agree that it’s built like a tank. And like a tank, you can rely on it to protect your little ones.

It Is Well-Padded. The padding that the seat is built with is not only for safety purposes but also for the utmost comfort of the passenger. You would not be needing to get anything extra to add to the comfort it can give.

The Seat Is Heavy. It’s 28.5 pounds! It’s probably one the heaviest convertible car seat there is. And like a tank, it sure is heavily built. To help you transport it around, a Britax Car Seat Travel Cart will be a HUGE help!

The Straps On The Seat Are Short. When you tighten the harness on to your child, everything, including the seat belt on the legs also tightens as it is all connected. After which, you would notice that the belts would fit awkwardly over the legs. The strap edges would “cut” into the legs at an uncomfortable angle.

The colors of the seat are even better in person. Not that it’s necessary, but it’s something that is worth noting.

Conclusion

Taking this seat in and out of a car to transfer it to different vehicles can be a nightmare because of its weight. If you plan to use this for your child, it is best to leave it installed in your car.

If only the straps that “dig” to a child’s leg is designed differently, I am sure that the little passenger would be comfortably seated as the padding that the seat comes with provides an utmost comfort.

Is it expensive? Yes.

Does it underperform? Not until you experience the short straps when your child gets older.

What Do You Think?

Is The Britax Marathon Clicktight something that you would want to test drive?

  1. I am considering purchasing my son Gabriel a new seat for the car. The car seat I got now is horrible and it’s really hard to strap my son in at times. I just hate how it is made. This looks good and looks very easy to use.

I shared your article by the way (:

    1. Hi Tomas,

That’s very kind of you to share this article. 🙂 Appreciate it.

There are more two-way seats like this that I have thoroughly reviewed. You can find them here. All the seats in that link are good until forward-facing.

If you want something that your child can use until booster mode, here’s the link for my reviews of all All-In-One car seats.

Finally, I have all their comparisons in this link.

I hope you find what suits your child best. 🙂

  2. This one does sound like it’s quite heavy and a bit of a pain to switch from one vehicle to the next. What is your highest recommendation when looking for an infant seat that would be both lighter and easier to maneuver from one vehicle to another?

  3. I do agree that safety is the most important issue, no doubt. But it seems that with this seat you get comfort as long as you’re not strapped in properly as the straps are short. That’s a big no. And also, if you need to move the seat from one car to another it seems like you need a strong engineer.

What are the age/size limits for this particular seat?

    Cat

    1. Hi Cat,

      Exactly my point.

It can accommodate babies from 5 to 40 pounds (rear-facing). It is also good for forward-facing for kids from 20 to 65 pounds. That is around 1 year plus old.

      Regards,

      Pitin
